Atapi Cd-rom Driver DownloadBoot From Atapi Cd-rom Failure

Howdy and welcome to G2G: Are you using a Win95 bootdisk?? If so, that is your problem. Win95 bootdisks do NOT have cd-rom drivers on them unless you got the bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com Go to www.bootdisk.com and download the file for a Win98SE or WinME bootdisk. Once it is downloaded, place a clean newly formatted floppy in the floppy drive.

Now, double click on the file you downloaded in order to extract the proper files onto the boot floppy. Now, try using that to boot the system and install Windows. BTW, when given the option, select 'Boot with cd-rom support'!! This is what I get now when I reboot the system: This driver is provided by Oak Technology, Inc. 0TI-91X ATAPI CD-ROM device driver, Rev D91XV352 © Copyright OakTechnology Inc. 1987-1997 Device Name: ATAPI_CD No drives found, aborting installation c: >Path=C: Windows;c: Windows command c: >c: Windows command mscdex.exe /d:oakcdrom.sys /L:R Illegal option usage: MSCDEX [/E /K /S /V] [/D. [/L:] [/M:] C: >What now?

The power is connected. I see the CDROM light come on and hear it spin when booted.

Nov 09, 2003:o I keep getting this message during startup: This driver is provided by Oak Technology Inc. OTI-91X ATAPI CD-ROM device driver Rev D91XV352. I wanted to post this in case someone else is having the same problem. I googled everything and couldn't find a solution. I finally figured it out on my own. I had a duplicate machine, so I reviewed the 'Setup' (F2) at boot. I changed the the Secondary drives to read: Drive 0: Auto Drive 1: None Page 2: Changed boot Sequence to: CD-ROM First I rebooted system, went back in to 'Setup' (F2) This time the computer recognized the CD-Rom drive and the Secondary drive now looked like this: Drive 0: Auto CD-ROM Drive I then loaded a boot disk for Windows 95 Was prompted to select from three options 1. Boot with CD-Rom Support 2. Boot without CD-Rom support 3.

Help I selected #2 and allowed system to go through it's sequence. At the a: >prompt, I did the following: a: >SYS C: (Received System Transferred) a: >Format c: /s After Format I rebooted system with Windows 95 boot disk in floppy drive. Shuler And Kargi Bioprocess Engineering Ebook more. Then I chose option 1 this time. At the a: >I changed to the C: Drive At the c: >Setup and off I went.

Everything loaded correctly. Then I upgraded to Windows 98. Thank everyone for your help.

I hope this information is able to help others.
