Dimage Scan Elite 5400 Ii

The theory as I understand it is that hardware (drivers) and application software are separate concerns here. You should be able to install and run the Minolta software on any new version of Windows. 64-bit versions of Windows can install 32-bit programs.

But just because the software runs doesn't mean it can communicate with the scanner; that's the job of the hardware driver, which is where you run into problems. The Minolta driver for interfacing between the operating system and the scanner will be a 32-bit one, which may not work on 64-bit operating systems. Vuescan doesn't use the Minolta driver (as far as I'm aware); it has its own (updated) drivers for interfacing between the operating system and scanner hardware. I've been running a Minolta Scan Elite II - also USB (albiet 1.1) and Firewire with Vuescan for years, both with 64-bit Windows 7 and now with Windows 8.1. There's been no problem with Windows 8/8.1, and most software (and a lot of drivers) that work with Windows 8.1 also work with Windows 10.

Win8.1 and Win10 are actually very similar 'under the hood'. I haven't tried using the Minolta software in a few years. In my case, I'm using a 1394a/Firewire card because it's significantly faster than USB 1.1. Worst case, I may have to replace the 1394a adapter if the drivers don't work with Win10, but I fully expect Vuescan to be able to drive the scanner under Windows 10. Compatibility issues between 7 and 8 have been minimal; and so far what works in 8 looks to work fine in 10. So, extrapolating, it should work. For my scanner, I need to install its drivers, which are 32-bits, which ties me to VueScan x32 - I'm running Windows 8.1 x64, and it all just works fine.

If you current version of Windows 7 is already 64-bits, the concern on the difference between 32 and 64 bits is also already covered - and most systems running win7 do actually already have the 64-bits version anyway. Rumah Sewa Di Vista Seri Putra.
